Values newsletter

Dear parents and carers,

Did you know that every two weeks a parents Values newsletter is added to the school’s website to help keep you informed about the values that we are doing in school? The values come from the “fruits of spirit” in the Bible (Galatians 5:22-23) and also from the Fundamental British Values that schools are required to promote. We hope you enjoy reading these newsletters together as a family and make time to have a family discussion about these to compliment the children’s learning in school.

Miss Mason

Miss Chamberlain’s class have been ‘busy bees’ again…

Another week has flown by and I can’t quite believe that next week we will be in December. We have had some great learning experiences in 1EC this week! I have seen super behaviour and children being really kind to each other. It is so special when Miss Chamberlain and Mrs Khan can see children supporting their peers in their learning.

In maths this week we have been focusing upon subtraction word problems. The children could find the key information and write the corresponding number sentence. We then solved them using number lines and practical apparatus. Next week we will be focusing upon multiplication using pictorial representations and objects to solve by grouping and repeated addition.

In Literacy this week we continued to hook with the book ‘Toby and the Great Fire.’ On Thursday we wrote questions for Toby to find out more information about his character. We really enjoyed then doing some hot seating! Benjamin, Joshua, Thalia and Layth were super in the role of Toby and answered lots of our questions! The hot seating sparked lots of discussion and creative ideas. Today as an independent big write the children wrote an eye witness account as Toby. I will look forward to reading these over the weekend! Next week in Literacy we will be hooking with the short animation ‘Baboon on the moon.’ We will be using thought bubbles to show how a character is feeling.

Next week we will also be thinking about Nouns which is a word describing a person, place or thing.

This week’s star of the week is Jake! This is for persevering with the maths challenge booklets and for helping his peers out when they need some support with the number work. I am really proud of the progress that Jake has made this term. I hope that you have fun with Tommy Bear. We will look forward to hearing about Tommy’s adventures with you on Tuesday. Keep up the hard work!

This week we have got really into practising our Christmas songs. Just to let parents know, as part of the KS1 performance year 1 do not have speaking roles they form the choir. Year 2 have the speaking roles in the KS1 performance so your children will do this next year!

Please make sure your child has their PE kit in school all week. PE is usually on a Thursday afternoon, unless there are changes to timetables. Maths home work is due in on a Tuesday and topic homework looked at on a Wednesday. Spelling tests are on a Friday. Reading books are changed on a Thursday. Our library session is on a Tuesday so please return library books back to school on a Tuesday morning.

Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible; accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics and practicing spellings, counting and letter formation on the sheets which were sent home in book bags.

Please continue to check out our class blog for updates and pictures of what we have been doing in year 1.The children love to receive comments on what we have been doing!

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me on or arrange a time to come and meet with me.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Miss Chamberlain 🙂
