Weekly news

Last week we had a very busy week and squeezed as much learning as possible into 5 days.

Last week in Maths we looked at Division by sharing. We used practical apparatus to solve division problems and soon mastered the concept and worked on our solving division problems independently. This week we are focusing on 2D Shapes.

In Literacy we made our own fact notes from dinosaur non-fiction books. We all learnt lots of new information from this activity. On Friday we did a Big Write where we wrote instructions on how to set up a fish tank. This week we will be continuing to look at non-fiction books and will identify key information from a non-fiction video. In our grammar work we worked on adding ‘ing’ to a verb.

Last week our Sound of the Week was ‘or’ as in shut the door. This week our sound is ‘air’ as in that’s not fair. Please practise writing words with this sound in at home.

In our topic work we sorted animals into vertebrates and invertebrates. This week we will learning about how animals have different diets and will be classifying animals as herbivores, omnivores and carnivores. We will also continue to listen to the Carnival of the Animals Music and we will be responding to the music through drawing, painting, dancing and writing, I am looking forward to this activity!

My Star of the Week is Mya for her amazing observational drawing in her artwork. She really thought about the features of her animal and included all the detail.

Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school with them on Thursdays, there are still a number of children who are coming to school without it. Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible; accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics and practising spellings and number formation. Spellings and Maths homework were sent out in book bags tonight.

On Friday this week we will be going on our Year 1 trip to Tropical World. It was lovely to receive so many offers of volunteers on the day. I will inform parents tomorrow who I am taking.

If you need to speak to me please contact me on my email emily.chambelain@allertonceprimary.com or arrange a time to come and meet with me.

I hope that you have all had a fantastic weekend.

Miss Chamberlain
